As per league rules, after the draft, each team will have 15 players and will be trimmed down to 12 players once the season starts.
To make this league more competitive and give value to the draft picks, I was thinking of making the following rule (depending on your additional suggestions or revisions or objections):
Note that this is still a rough draft. Feel free to make any suggestion.
I. The 3 players that will be waived by each team will be reverted back to the waiver wire, BUT are personal property by the teams that waived them until the start of the NBA All-Stars week. After the all-star week, the 3 players waived will now be labeled as Free Agents and thus can be claimed by any team.
This means that, say, Player A, Player B, and Player C were part of my roster (either drafted or part of my team from the previous season). I've decided to not include them in my 12 player roster. They'll be placed in the waiver wire, BUT can't be claimed by any other team except me as the owner of the 3 players. I can take them anytime I want until the all-star break.
II. If I decided to add one/all of the 3 waived players to my lineup and replaced one or 3 of my current players, the player/s that will be dropped will be considered as FREE AGENTS, meaning that the players dropped from my roster can now be claimed by other teams.
III. The 3 players placed as your reserved player in the waiver wire can't be replaced by another player (either from your team or from the free agency pool).
IV. The 3 players also trade them to other team for, a player/s, a draft pick/s, or a combination of both. But once traded, they'll become personal property of the team that acquired them through trade.
V. Any players received because of the said trade mentioned above must be included in your line up in the next 3 days after the said trade has been processed. Failure to do so would mean that said player will be released to the Free Agency Pool.
VI. The team that acquired any of the players that were part of the reserved list will still needs to:
maintain 12 players in their roster;
can only have 3 players as their reserved that is in the waiver wire.
VII. To keep track of the players that are part of our reserved list, I'll be posting a commissioner's note in our yahoo league account at the start of the NBA Season.
The bottom line of this suggestion is so that the draft picks will now have more power as part of our team management and as a powerful bargaining chips, since we're basically only allowed to retain 12 players at the start of the season, which means that 3 players (and usually these 3 players are all taken from the draft rounds) will be waived and will now make the draft picks as useless to some teams that have no need of the draft.
Hope you got and understand my intention.
Feel free to make any suggestions below.
